FAQS

  • This is a very tough question to answer because there are a lot of moving parts, but will try to explain and keep it simple. Everything is based on points. Your top 12 point finishes from January 1, 2023 to June 9, 2024 is what determines the seeding. You can play in only 12 tournaments or you can play in say 38, but only the top 12 will determine seeding. Some caveats: 1) Only 2 American teams can make it in even if the USA had 4 teams in the top 15 in the world - doesn’t matter. ONLY 2 get to go. 2) You have to play with the same partner for all 12 tournaments to be eligible. There are a couple other fine print things but that basically covers it all!

  • Everything is very much on your own. From training and lifting to finding tournaments and a coach. First, finding a partner. Not everyone has a set partner especially at the beginning of their career. Next, find yourself a coach. Some people don’t even have a coach, they will train on their own or with other people. Setting a schedule for the lifting and training is all on you too. You need to work together with your partner, coach, and strength coach to find the best combination to reach peak physical fitness. Finally, sign up for your tournaments. This involves traveling around the country/world to play the best possible competition. Professional beach volleyball isn’t easy, but that’s what makes it even more fun to work towards!

  • The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is the premiere US pro beach volleyball tour. There are a couple different tiers to the AVP which include (in order of skill level): AVP (Gold, Pro, & Tour series), AVPNext Gold, AVPNext/AVP America, and AVPFirst.

  • The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) is for international professional beach volleyball. Beach Volleyball World is the new (started in 2022) international beach volleyball tour. Similar to the AVP, it is structured in 3 tiers: Future, Challenger, Elite 16. The Future level is for people just starting out in the international scene, the Challenger level is more competitive and a way to work your way into the top, & lastly the Elite 16 level is for THE ELITE - these are your top international tournaments.
