2023 SEASON RECAP

We started the year with a 2-month training camp in Hermosa Beach, California. We competed in 12 international tournaments. We competed in 4 AVP tournaments. We ran 2 clinics in the United States. I (Taryn) was able to make it back home to South Dakota 3 times this year! We hit 9 different countries (Brazil, Mexico, and Qatar multiple times). We hit 9 different states. We spent 334 hours traveling in flight. We were away from home base for 62% of the year, 228/365 days. We took home 7 medals, 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. We started a podcast. Kristen began vlogging our adventures. We capped off our 2023 season, only our second international season, with a gold medal at the World Tour Finals in our 92nd match of the year!

Our goals for the 2023 season:

-       Medal at World Championships

-       Medal 6 times – 2 of them Gold in Elite 16s

-       Finish 5th or above

-       Qualify for AVP Championships

-       Win 1 Gold Series event

-       Win 2 total AVPs in 2023

-       Finish 5th or above

WOW… cue waterworks.

We did medal at the World Championships. We medaled 7 times, only 1 of the 3 golds were at an Elite 16 event. We finished 5th or above in all events except for Tepic, Mexico. The AVP Championships were cancelled, but we would have qualified. We did win the AVP Atlanta and AVP Chicago Gold events for a total of two events. We finished 3rd or above in all AVPs.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the results of the tournament that we are currently in, that we forget about how far we’ve come. I guess it’s a good thing that we are not dwelling on the good or the bad. We are never satisfied. But after 12 months into the 18 months of the Olympic Qualification period we can be proud of the work that we have put in thus far and just keep pushing!
